The number of new openings has slowed down slightly. There is a summer lull with vacation season in full swing but our clients are still working on the existing requisitions. It is hard to schedule site visits with hiring teams missing one or more members for a week at a time. The Philadelphia Energy Systems refinery in Philadelphia has closed following a catastrophic fire and many employers are conducting job fairs in the Philly area to pick up the laid off workers. Two specialty chemical plants in Houston will be closing and that is placing several engineers on the market. Overall hiring is evenly distributed across all segments of the chemical/refining industry and across all types of engineering titles. Salaries continue to hold steady with no large increases in job offer salary levels.
