Job Summary:

We are seeking a Plant Project Engineer to support capital and maintenance projects at our client's refinery. This role is responsible for managing engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring they meet safety, budget, and schedule requirements. The ideal candidate will work closely with operations, maintenance, contractors, and engineering teams to execute projects that enhance refinery efficiency, reliability, and safety.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the execution of capital and maintenance projects to improve plant performance.
  • Ensure all projects comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Manage contractor and vendor relationships, ensuring adherence to project specifications and refinery standards.
  • Conduct technical evaluations, risk assessments, and feasibility studies for proposed projects.
  • Oversee procurement of equipment and materials, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality compliance.
  • Provide engineering support during project construction, commissioning, and startup phases.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and recommend solutions for plant reliability and performance issues.
  • Maintain project documentation, including engineering drawings, technical reports, and progress updates.

 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (or a related discipline).
  • 2-7 years of experience in refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial project engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Experience with piping systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, and structural design.
  • Familiarity with API, ASME, OSHA, and other industry codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of process safety management (PSM), risk analysis, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management software (Primavera, MS Project), and CAD software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with construction management and contractor oversight.
  • Understanding of DCS/PLC systems and process controls.
  • Experience in turnaround planning and execution.

 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily on-site at the refinery, with a mix of office and fieldwork.
  • Exposure to industrial environments, including heat, noise, and hazardous materials.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with safety protocols.
  • Occasional extended hours or on-call support may be required during project execution.
