About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Plant Engineer to join our team at a growing, large-scale processing facility in Northern Nevada. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting daily plant operations, optimizing chemical and mechanical processes, managing continuous improvement projects, and ensuring high equipment reliability and safety compliance.
This is a critical position for an engineer who thrives in a dynamic industrial environment and enjoys solving complex operational challenges from front-end design through execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Optimization & Troubleshooting: Analyze manufacturing/processing systems (e.g., leaching, crystallization, precipitation, solids-liquids separation, filtration, and calcination) to optimize yield, throughput, and efficiency.
- Equipment Reliability & Maintenance: Collaborate with maintenance teams to monitor equipment performance (pumps, piping, pressure vessels, kilns/dryers, and instrumentation), identify root causes of equipment failure, and implement corrective actions.
- Capital & Engineering Projects: Manage small-to-medium Management of Change (MOC) and capital expenditure (CapEx) projects from conceptual design and sizing through procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
- Process Safety & Environmental Compliance: Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Hazard and Operability studies (HAZOPs), and ensure plant engineering changes comply with OSHA, EPA, and state regulatory standards.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience: engineering experience in a chemical processing, mineral processing, refining, metallurgical, or heavy industrial facility.
- Technical Proficiency: Solid understanding of fluid flow, heat transfer, mass balances, P&IDs, and process control systems (DCS/PLC).
- Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage minor engineering projects, vendor contracts, and equipment specification/selection.
- Safety First Mindset: Strong commitment to industrial safety protocols (LOTO, MOC, PHA, PPE).
Preferred:
- Experience in hydrometallurgy, brine processing, crystallization, or specialty chemical manufacturing.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Familiarity with reliability engineering tools (RCA, FMEA).
Work Environment & Location Details
- Work Arrangement: 100% On-Site in Northern Nevada.
- Physical capability to walk through an active processing facility, climb stairs/ladders, and wear required PPE.
