Process Safety Engineer #1164

Location: Houston, TX
Salary: 110- 140K

The Process Safety & Risk Engineer role is an engineering consulting position supporting multiple manufacturing sites in process safety of existing facilities and the safe design of new projects. The Process Safety & Risk Engineer provides in depth technical leadership and support to refining / petrochemical sites with a focus on hazard identification, risk assessment and providing cost effective risk management solutions.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Respond to plant operational events and assist sites to develop risk based solutions to novel or higher risk situations.
  • Analyze site safety incident and near miss performance
  • Drive site improvement in the areas of Process Safety and Loss Prevention
  • Drive site asset improvement in the areas of Process Safety and Loss Prevention
  • Assist sites in application of new process safety technology and risk assessment tools
  • Provide regional technical leadership via involvement (participation / facilitation) in formal technical networks / work groups
  • Develop and deliver training in risk assessment, process safety in design and safe operating practices for plant engineers and key operating personnel
  • Support major capital projects in the areas of design consulting, technical quality assurance and start-up assistance
  • Develop and maintain technical standards & guidelines

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Significant professional experience required – preferably within an operating company or a major engineering contractor (petrochemical or other heavy industry experience strongly desired)

Technical Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of design, technical support and troubleshooting for petrochemical / refining operations
  • Knowledge of the key hazards and process safety features of typical refinery process equipment
  • Knowledge of process safety design and engineering practices, and the relevant industry standards (e.g. API, BS, EN, NFPA)
  • Experience in the use of appropriate analysis techniques
  • Risk assessment and mitigation
  • Hazard and Operability Review (HAZOP)
  • Field process safety assessments
